True Markets, a New York-based cryptocurrency startup, announced Wednesday the closure of an $11 million Series A funding round, co-led by Boston-based Accomplice and New York-based RRE Ventures. The round also included participation from Reciprocal Ventures, Variant, and PayPal Ventures, bringing the company's total raised capital to $20 million. Previous investors include Paxos Ventures and the Solana Foundation.
Alongside this financial milestone, True Markets launched its app on Apple's App Store, exclusively running on the Solana blockchain. The app offers retail users a stablecoin-native DeFi trading experience, combining powerful tools with an intuitive interface. As a non-custodial platform, True Markets does not hold client assets, addressing a critical risk factor that has plagued many cryptocurrency startups.
The company was founded by former Coinbase executives Vishal K. Gupta and Patrick McCreary, who bring experience from Coinbase, Goldman Sachs, and Circle. Gupta, who holds a degree in Computer and Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, emphasized the company's mission to overcome limitations of current traditional and crypto finance systems. He highlighted challenges retail traders face, including clunky workflows, unclear pricing, and fragmented liquidity, which True Markets aims to solve.
True Markets supports Solana-native assets and utilizes Turnkey's secure key infrastructure to offer low-cost, high-speed access to cryptocurrency traders. Bryce Ferguson of Turnkey praised the platform for balancing security and simplicity, a rare feat in the crypto space. By integrating Turnkey's technology, True Markets provides a trading environment where users can operate with confidence, without sacrificing control or convenience.
This development is significant for the cryptocurrency industry, as it represents a move toward more accessible, secure, and user-friendly trading platforms for retail investors. The involvement of notable investors like Accomplice and RRE Ventures, along with the founders' reputable backgrounds, underscores the potential impact of True Markets on the future of decentralized finance.
