Merchant, a global operating company that provides growth capital and strategic resources to independent financial services firms, has appointed Rich Policastro as Managing Director. Policastro brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in the financial services sector, having held senior roles at Schwab Advisor Services, Fidelity Institutional, and as Executive Director of Mergers & Acquisitions at Hightower Advisors. His track record includes helping Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) achieve growth, operational improvements, and strategic execution.
This appointment underscores Merchant's intensified focus on building a comprehensive ecosystem for advisors. The company has been actively assembling a community of essential service providers, including AdvisorAssist for compliance and RIA operations, Republic Capital Group for investment banking and valuation advisory, and Fin.Link, a fintech platform that enhances advisor-client connectivity. Other partners include TAG Intel for geopolitical analysis, Mosaic Advanced Planning for tax and estate planning strategies, and Venning Advisors for integrated CPA solutions.
Tim Bello, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Merchant, highlighted the significance of Policastro's addition: "Rich's addition reflects our ongoing commitment to surrounding advisors with not only top-tier resources but also the people who’ve been in the trenches with them." Policastro's deep industry insight and execution-focused approach are expected to significantly benefit Merchant's community of advisors, helping them navigate growth and operational challenges.
Beyond partner services, Merchant has launched outsourced CFO services and a cybersecurity solution designed specifically for advisory firms. Future plans include introducing trust services and enhanced valuation capabilities. These initiatives are part of Merchant's broader strategy to provide comprehensive support, enabling advisors to grow, protect, and evolve their practices effectively.
The appointment is particularly significant as the wealth management industry undergoes rapid consolidation and increasing demand for holistic support. By embedding itself across the industry's scaffolding, Merchant aims to be a true lifecycle partner to advisors, offering not just capital but the infrastructure needed to thrive in a competitive landscape. "Our goal is to be embedded across the scaffolding of the industry—supporting advisors not just with capital but with the infrastructure to grow, protect, and evolve their firms," Bello added.
