The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) announced that its original documentary, Chatsworth Through Time, will be released on public television stations across the United States in August 2026. Distributed by American Public Television (APT), the film will air on stations including Connecticut Public Television (CPTV). The documentary explores the history, architecture, landscape, and artworks of Chatsworth, one of Great Britain's most renowned estates, located in the Peak District National Park and home to the Devonshire family for 500 years.
Over the centuries, the Dukes and Duchesses of Devonshire have renovated and expanded the house to reflect new political developments, social realities, and changing styles. The documentary takes viewers from the Tudor Period to the 21st century, culminating in an extended interview with the current Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. According to the ICAA, the program features unparalleled access to the estate's extraordinary collection of historically significant architecture, fine craftsmanship, and rare artworks accumulated over seventeen generations. Hosted by Chatsworth's senior curators, the film provides an in-depth look at how the estate has evolved while preserving its heritage.
"It was an honor at the ICAA to work with the Chatsworth House Trust, providing a unique opportunity to thoroughly explore the story of a house rich in architectural and artistic history," said ICAA president Peter Lyden. "By opening the house's archives and hearing directly from the Duke of Devonshire, Chatsworth Through Time provides unprecedented insight into the legendary estate." The documentary is part of the ICAA's ongoing efforts to promote classical and traditional design. The organization, headquartered in New York City with regional chapters across the United States, produces educational content including the Design in Mind film series and the World of Classicism biweekly series, which offers articles, short films, online courses, and podcasts. More information about the ICAA's programs can be found at classicist.org.
Chatsworth itself is a registered charity managed by the Chatsworth House Trust, which is dedicated to preserving the house, collections, garden, and parkland for public benefit. The estate includes a Grade I listed house and stables, a 105-acre garden, a 1,822-acre park, a farmyard, and an adventure playground, along with one of Europe's most significant private art collections. Visitor income funds essential conservation and an ambitious program of exhibitions, events, learning, and community outreach. For more details, visit chatsworth.org.
The national broadcast of Chatsworth Through Time underscores the growing interest in historic estates and their relevance today. By showcasing the interplay between architecture, art, and family history, the documentary aims to educate and inspire audiences about the importance of preserving cultural heritage. APT, which syndicates programming to public television stations nationwide, will make the film available to viewers across the country starting in August 2026.
