A unique city-wide miniature golf fundraiser in Freeport drew nearly 250 participants and raised $2,360 for Friends Forever Humane Society, surpassing organizers' initial expectations. Communication and Design Inc., The Freeport Club, and MAS Roofing, Siding and Decking Inc. collaborated to create Barstool Golf, transforming nine local venues into custom miniature golf holes.
The April 19th event invited teams of four to navigate through local establishments including Tony's, Big O's, The Royal Pub, Pretzel City Pub, Morts Bar and Grill, King's Bar and Grill, The Eagles Club, and Lucky Pines. Participants paid a $40 team registration fee, with all proceeds directly supporting the local animal shelter.
Ryan Lester from Communication and Design Inc. expressed excitement about the community's enthusiastic response, noting that the event far exceeded the anticipated 100-participant goal. The day concluded with an after-party at The Freeport Club, featuring playoffs, refreshments, and an awards ceremony.
Carol from Friends Forever Humane Society emphasized the fundraiser's significance, stating that the funds would substantially enhance their capacity to care for animals in need throughout the Freeport area. Mike Stingley from MAS Roofing highlighted the remarkable enthusiasm from both participants and venues.
Organizers have already announced plans to make Barstool Golf an annual tradition, with aspirations to increase participation and fundraising goals in future years. The event not only raised critical funds for a local nonprofit but also showcased the community's capacity for creative, collaborative philanthropy.
