Donut Labs, a New York-based startup, has closed a $7 million pre-seed funding round to advance its agentic 'crypto browser', designed to merge information retrieval with financial actions. The round was led by HongShan Capital Group, with participation from BitKraft, HackVC, and others, signaling strong confidence in the project's potential to redefine internet browsing for the cryptocurrency era.
Founded by CEO Chris Zhu, an NYU Stern School of Business alumnus with a product strategy background at ByteDance, Donut Labs is assembling a team from top tech and academic institutions, including former Meta AI researcher Tim Fan and specialists from Tencent and New York University. The browser aims to serve as a comprehensive front-end for crypto services, enabling users to track tokens, trade, bet, and earn yield without leaving a single page. It leverages the CodeAct framework and an MCP client for seamless operations.
Donut Labs envisions a future where financial executions are autonomously completed by agents within the browser, enhancing user experience and positioning the company at the forefront of the hyper-financialization of the internet's front-end. Plans include integrating a wallet, network, and decentralized exchange into the interface, offering an unparalleled integrated solution for crypto enthusiasts.
The significance of this project lies in its potential to transform how users interact with the internet and cryptocurrency markets. By eliminating the need for multiple platforms, the agentic browser could democratize access to crypto services, making them more accessible to a broader audience. This development highlights the growing integration of AI and financial technologies as the next frontier in digital innovation.
